This is great for the RS4 content - but then hilarious because it looks like the 6-time Le Mans winner is motorboatin' ... or making engine noises so perhaps he's lost his mind. Either way, it's good stuff.
tastes change. sure, these sound great, and it goes without saying that i'd take one in a heartbeat, but in the end, i think i prefer the sound of an e90 m3, even an e46. i used to think deep, basso profondo V8s sounded the best, but the more i'm around these cars, the more i think i prefer the higher-pitched wail of the bmw engines. the audi and amg v8 engines are impressive but ultimately still sound like they belong in street cars; the e46 and e90 m3 engines legitimately sound like they could belong in race cars. and that just appeals to me tremendously (although i understand completely how the average non-car person could prefer the rs4's and m-b's more muscle car-like snorts).
I agree - the S54 and S65 are probably better sounding engines. I like that both translate into racing engines or come from them. According to BMW - there isn't terribly much that separates the S65 and the V8 that powers the ALMS car. Can't go wrong with that.
However, I have a hard time snubbing the noise and sheer grunt of the Benz V8's if they're the German thug of the group then the BMW V8 is the athletic one - powerful and loves to run!
i prefer this to the rs4. *unthinkable* just a couple of years ago. i initially really disliked the high-pitched, metallic-sounding s54. so this is just a complete 180 for me.
